Gears of War: Judgment – The Final Chapter?

What is Gears of War: Judgment

Gears of War: Judgment is Epic’s newest release in the huge and successful series “Gears of War”. This game is a co-op story mode which is common in the Gears games. Instead of telling a story from beginning to end, Judgment is told in flashbacks by Baird and the Kilo Squad. Baird, by the way, is back and the leading character in this new entry vs older versions where he was a sidekick character. Most of the changes in Judgment are within the gameplay and does bring some major changes to your campaign experience. Even with the new multiplayer experiences, you will not mistake it for anything else but a member of the Gears of War franchise.

The Game:

Epic has broken sections of the campaign into digestible, single battles but does play on the series’ greatest assets of violent, intense and loud.

Enemies come in huge waves with little to no time to relax. If you like the jump in and “get to it” action, there are very few games out there that will even touch this one.

Rating your mission to mission performance on their 3-star system and offering extra difficult modifiers will make the campaign more re-playable and it is easy to just jump into a section you want to play over.

Gears 6

Gears multiplayer rivals anything else in the shooter genre. Although Horde and Beast modes are gone, the new Overrun mode is one of Judgment’s best elements. In this mode you are defending emergence holes and generators. You will also take control of various Locust creatures! Overrun is completely unique and will bring you back time and time again.

Aftermath is an epilogue chapter that unlocks as you continue through your campaign. It takes place during the time of Gears of War 3 but without the rigid structure of the main campaign, this feels seamless and offers some really good moments.

If you want a change of pace from Overrun, there’s a new survival mode’s COG vs A.I games reminds you somewhat of the old Horde experience. You are defending generators from huge waves of computer controlled Locust which is actually a nice touch. You are also  getting Free For All, Team Deathmatch, and Domination if you are looking for the more classical online shooter experience.

In Conclusion:

Judgment has a polished experience that is also re-playable. If you are a fan of the Gears franchise, you are going to want to get in on Judgment. Judgment is probably going to be the final game in the Gears family. So come on over and enjoy the game and say goodbye to this huge generation of games.
