Puzzles are too easy to solve

Welcome to Valiant Hearts: The Great War, one of the darkest times in recent history, where you will want to take things slowly as you dig your way through trenches of WWI. You could very well get lost in the blood and mud, just left there to lay, or you could be victorious and become a hero who’s never forgotten, and that is what makes this action packed game so fun. The choices you make can decide the outcome.

The storyline is focused mainly around the great war of WWI which took place between 1914 and 1918. The story starts in 1914 where you will be taking on the role of not one, but two people, Karl and Emile.

Karl was just a civilian who was yanked from his family and taken off to be taken out of the country, shortly after Emile, his son was taken into the French army for training. It’s not long before Emile is advanced to the front lines which puts you right in the middle of all the action and excitement! Bullets flying, people dropping, missions being one step closer to success or failure.

You also get to play the role of Anna. She is a nurse who was born in Belgian, but stationed in Paris. Then there is Freddie who is an American with a heart full of hate and vengeance which he enlisted to get even with.

The storyline has these characters meeting, then falling apart and surviving the war through the progress of several years. This gives you a wide range of activities to be doing throughout, which will keep you very busy.

You will have to collect various objects that are relevant to the mission, and you will need to save these objects to help you solve puzzles that are sometimes mechanical in nature. You will also have a Doberman Pinscher that becomes your best companion, you can use him to fetch things for you when you’re not able to. There is some communication, but it’s more of the animation as the chat bubbles are minimal.

You will also have a wide range of attack styles depending on the character you are playing. Freddie for example is known for his grenades that blow up people, but also obstacles that are in your way. Then there is Emile who will knock a person out without hesitation with her big spoon! Anna has this rhythmmini-game that goes on as she’s amputating a limb, maybe to keep you busy and attention off the job at hand, or leg in this case? Then there’s the times when you will have her driving a taxi in Paris, dogging other stuff and people.

There is a lot to do in Valiant Hearts, and if you’re a fan of war environments, mini games, or just looking to pass time, you should check it out.
